19 May Back in the U.S., back in the U.S., back is the US of A…
After traveling for 1.5 years I am finally back home in Florida. I was supposed to be in South America until May 21st but I decided to cut my trip short for some personal reasons. My original travel plans from London were first to Bolivia then to Sao Paulo. Bolivia was to meet a woman that I met in Argentina in May of 2017 (we also traveled together for 17 days through southeast Asia in November) but she is now in a serious relationship so there was no reason for me to go there. Sao Paulo was to visit my friend Stephanie who was a fellow Remote Year traveler but I could not stay with her in her family’s house so I decided to skip that too. I was just very tired and felt that I needed to end my travels to rest. So here I am back in the US of A.
People keep asking me now that I am home (Home? I no longer live in NY as I gave up everything there to travel. I am living temporarily with my mom and sister in Boynton Beach Florida) “So how weird is it to be back?” Well honestly it is nothing different for me then when I was living here before I left to go on my trip. In November and December of 2016 this was where I was living. Life is kind of easy and lazy here for me. What I did back in 2016 was shop and prepare for my trip and now that I am here again all I do is shop and prepare to stay. I need all new clothes as I do not own a pair of shoes anymore as I left my last pair in London before coming here. Most of my clothes that I still own are all beat up and I am sick of wearing the same clothes, I need more than just black, blue and gray clothes…I need some color in my life. Mentally for me it is easy being here.
Apparently change for me does not really disrupt my way of living and being. For some other people, they might find it difficult to adapt again and again, I don’t. Over the past almost 20 years I have bought and sold many apartments so moving is something that I am used to doing. But once again I need to figure out what I am going to do but there is no rush for me, I will be in Florida for at the least 4 months but probably longer. My first task is to rebuild my business because I have lost a large part of my business because it was based in NY. That was where I did lots of small jobs but it added up to a fair amount at the end of the year. Reorganizing my many websites, reaching out to vendors to do more business, finding new vendors and seeing how I can tell my story of my travels and maybe get my “Vertical Church”book done this year too.
**This is an Article that CNBC “MAKE IT.” did on me a few weeks ago**
So from my last post I was leaving Cinque Terre to head to Florence then on to Paris to meet my family and end up in London with my family before heading to South America. Florence was really nice, the weather was absolutely perfect. My hotel once again was located in a prime area, very close to the Duomo. Food there was excellent too, great steak and I had gelato every day! I ended up like many people who have time in Florence heading over to Pisa for a day. I was in both Florence and Pisa probably about 20 years ago and really do not have much of a memory of Florence but more of Pisa. The day I was in Pisa I stayed all day and had a chance to walk around the city which was very enjoyable and the pizza was fantastic too of course. When I was in Pisa last time you could not walk up to the top as they were doing construction on it in the 1990’s but I did go up this time and you do feel the angling as you walk up. From Florence it was back to Paris once again to meet up with my family for our first time ever European Vacation.
My family consisted of my mother who just turned 80, my sister, my brother and my nephew. For my mother and sister, they have never been to Europe and they were coming from Spain to meet us as the two of them did a 10 day cruise in Italy and Spain. I have not seen my mom or sister in over a year, my nephew since September of 2017 and my brother in close to two years. This was a very special occasion for all of us to be together for this kind of trip, we had a wonderful time. My 80 year old mom kept up with us for every activity and more. We did three days in Paris then on to London for three more days. Paris as always is a great place to just walk around and see anything that you come up upon and London we were blessed with 3 days of perfect blue skies.
So where do we go from here? As I mentioned I plan on staying here for a while until I figure out my next move. Planning to go to Austin in June, Seattle and San Francisco in July and on to New York in late July. Where else is a mystery for now so keep a watch here and see what happens moving forward.
